It has come to our attention that members of Stanton mistakenly believe they are free to relocate their families anywhere they wish. This is simply not the case. God has ordained every member to be a part of the body where he sees fit, and he’s clearly put us in charge of telling you where that is. Relocating because of a job, school opportunity, or worldly reason like raising your family in a better community is not allowed under any circumstance, unless it is your unbelieving spouse forcing it on you. This way, they take the blame with God for the unauthorized move, not you.
To avoid further confusion, we thought it best to publish an updated list of rules to guide members in relocation decisions. Frankly, you don’t really need to read them; just ask us for counsel, and we’ll tell you if it’s OK to relocate. It probably isn’t. But if you must know the rules, here they are.
Approved reasons to relocate
It is understood that in all cases, counsel must be sought for relocation and approval granted from a teacher. Keep in mind that not all teachers will give the same counsel, so we recommend asking around (carefully, to avoid being withdrawn from for murmuring) to find out which teacher is likely to approve your request.
Remember when you were a child and knew which parent to ask for different things? It’s exactly like that. By all means, develop a close relationship with the most lenient teacher. Here are the most common types of relocation requests granted.
- Non-member spouse is forcing the church member to move. There are no geographic limitations in this case.
- Sick relative needs care. There are no geographic limitations, but counsel must be sought and approval granted.
- Sickness due to climate. This is only acceptable if the member has been told by a medical professional that a different climate would help them feel better.
- Specifically helping a congregation. This is arranged by the church.
- Marriage of two Christians living in different congregations. In this case, one would be allowed to move if they seek counsel and permission is granted.
- Courtship between two Christians living in different congregations. One may be allowed to move with permission from a teacher.
Unapproved reasons to relocate
This is only a small sample of the types of relocation requests that will be denied.
- Better job transfer or opportunity.
- Better schooling or training opportunity.
- Better weather (when health can’t be reasonably blamed).
- Better location to raise a family.
- Better proximity to family.
- Desire to be in a smaller, larger, or better city.
- Desire to be part of a better congregation, or under a better preacher or teacher.
- Desire to be in a better congregation for your teens to find a mate.
Another great post!! Thanks Kevin!!
Thank you. The main bullet points for the post came from a commenter, I couldn't do this without everyone's help.
You may as well just live in the Middle East with all these rules or better yet become Muslim. What kind of leadership thinks this way? A very sick mind.
Remember how 'it's the better thing' was used as an answer for why we did things? Well, I think this list could be a great way to promote that way of thinking! 'I'm moving to a better place that has a better job for me to support my family better!! It's the better thing!!
Let's just say you are baptized in congregation A and have every intention of relocating to congregation B in the next year or two. Sorry Charlie, ain't gonna happen!
But even if leadership knows the person's intentions, they won't tell them the rules beforehand, because "they aren't ready." Ready for what? The truth?
I say preach the truth boldly but in love, and let the chips fall where they may. If they really believe that their teachings are "the truth" then stand up and defend them from scripture.
Defend them from scripture? Why Kevin, you jest!
Bottom line; a rule book is long overdue.
A person reading just their Bible would be completely incapable of figuring out the whole truth since the whole scoc truth isn't contained therein. With a rule book in hand a person would at least know what they're getting into.
How and why could anybody be in this much fear of God to live like this.. As I've stated before, I just don't have this kind of fear..it can't be good for anyone to live a life like this.. I know when I was in the church if I would have put a picture up with my family and a Christmas tree in the background on Facebook, I would have been severely reprimanded for it.. But yet I see a picture of the Evangelist and his wife with a family Christmas picture… Members are just not seeing all of this… Read more »
Kevin, I saw a lot of things they were hiding from people. I asked for a copy of the list of the contacts for all the congregations and it was treated like I was asking for something top secret.
Nobody in the church should be made to behave like they are walking on egg shells that we might offend in some manner as there is not transparency in the churches (not in the areas of personal lives). It seems that a lot of things we don't learn of until we somehow transgress what is hidden.
No doubt about it this is a cult. Is this why they do not believe in birth control as they want big families to inter marry the families and therefore
continue this crazy cult cycle of a cult? I am with anon 5:04. We have to get the word out some how so members read this blog or at least have their non member families read it.
A lot of religions don't believe in birth control. All this is doing is having kids that will go to hell if this is how hard it is to get into heaven LOL I don't think I'd be having kids if this was the way..few stay with the church.. I'd have no intentions on having kids to put them Hell Bound. I don't think any of GP'S kids are in the church.
Could you please explain 1Cor 12:18. I have been taught the twisted scoc version so I need help.
Sure, I'll give my take on it. This passage come from Paul's first letter to Corinth, which was probably written from Ephesus toward the end of his third missionary journey. In this chapter, Paul's addressing the spiritual gifts, and I believe he's talking specifically about miraculous ones: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 – Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the… Read more »
Reading one of the stories of Matthew Ezell I came away dumbfounded how he has been withdrawn from for nearly 20 years for questioning why there is a May meeting. No answer given at his withdrawal meeting and not allowed to speak. Okay members of scoc ask your questions. Why is there a May meeting. Let's see the example or command in scripture. As stated in this blog by some who have attended May meetings wasted time. Ask why no elders after 50 years. Ask where do we see public confessions as part of worship. Ask why do we waste… Read more »
I was just reading up on "short man syndrome" LOL
To add to my 9:56 comment don't forget to ask the two paid preachers disguised as evangelists how much there support is. They should have no problem giving an honest answer.
I truly believe they would still be abusing children if they knew they can get away with it but they know lawfully they can't
For some, that may be true. But there's no way to know that, so I think it's far better to assume good motives and be thankful for the changes over the years, whatever motivation may be behind them.
